The Tennessee Oilers were a professional American football team that played during the 1997 NFL season. The team was previously known as the Houston Oilers, but they relocated to Tennessee due to a lack of a suitable stadium in Houston. The team played their home games at the Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium in Memphis.
During the 1997 season, the Tennessee Oilers finished with a record of 8-8 and missed out on the playoffs. The team was led by quarterback Steve McNair, who threw for 2,665 yards and 14 touchdowns. Running back Eddie George rushed for 1,399 yards and 6 touchdowns.
The Tennessee Oilers only played one season before relocating again and becoming the Tennessee Titans. The Titans have since enjoyed success, reaching the Super Bowl in 1999 and making numerous playoff appearances.
